These are counts in one KanjiVG snapshot. A count is not a rule. tradForm and radicalForm are attributes on the group. The notes say what radicalForm’s value true is for. They do not say what tradForm’s value true means, and the page reports that marking. The page makes no claim about why a mark is there, and no claim about meaning beyond those notes.
Cinnabar marks the group’s strokes on the host, once they have been drawn. On the standalone plate, cinnabar marks the kept strokes when the group’s letter-stripped sequence is a subsequence of the element’s own file. The tint is data-stroke-highlight. A plate without it is not recolored. Click a plate to replay. With reduced motion the finished character stays still, and the color stays. The draw timings are unchanged. The plate stays cream in either theme.

How the two marks are read
- tradForm group
- radicalForm group
- Element
- Original
- Own file
- Reference
- Stroke span
- The group’s strokes in the host’s -sN order. A contiguous run is written sN–sM. One stroke is written sN.
- Stroke count kept
- The group has as many strokes as the element’s own file.
- Shorter
- Fewer strokes than the element’s own file.
- Longer
- More strokes than the element’s own file.
- Equal
- The letter-stripped type sequences are the same tuple.
- Subsequence
- The group’s letter-stripped sequence is a subsequence of the reference, and the two tuples differ.
- Not a subsequence
- The letter-stripped sequence is not a subsequence of the reference. The page names no kept set for that group.
- Order kept
- First
- One unbroken run, starting at stroke 1, with some other stroke still to come.
- Last
- One unbroken run, ending on stroke N, with some other stroke already written.
- Split
- In the middle
- One unbroken run that is neither the start nor the end.
- The whole character
- The group contains every stroke. It is not counted as first or as last.
- Host
- A jōyō character whose file contains the group. One host can contain more than one group.

tradForm
The total row adds the group’s strokes. It also counts the rows that carry variant, partial, and original. The element’s own stroke count is not a sum. Part pieces of one element stay on separate rows.

By element
Hosts, groups, and the five places add to the row, and the total row adds those columns. Each element here has one host, so the hosts column adds to the hosts on the page. The element’s stroke count is not a sum. The original is the kvg:original string, not a count.
