These are counts in one KanjiVG snapshot. A count is not a rule. The page does not say that one form is the right one. The original is the kvg:original string. The page makes no claim about meaning.

Cinnabar marks the reduced form’s strokes on the host, once they have been drawn. The standalone plate is not recolored. The tint is data-stroke-highlight. A plate without it is not recolored. Click a plate to replay. With reduced motion the finished character stays still, and the color stays. The draw timings are unchanged. The plate stays cream in either theme.

How a reduced form is read

Reduced form
Original
Instance
Reference
Stroke count kept
The instance has the same number of strokes as the original’s own file.
Stroke count changed
The instance does not have that number of strokes. Shorter and longer split this cell, and they add to it.
Shorter
Fewer strokes than the original’s own file.
Longer
More strokes than the original’s own file.
Sequence the same
Sequence different
The letter-stripped sequences are not equal. A different length is different.
First
One unbroken run, starting at stroke 1, with some other stroke still to come.
Last
One unbroken run, ending on stroke N, with some other stroke already written.
Split
In the middle
One unbroken run that is neither the start nor the end.
The whole character
The instance contains every stroke. It is not counted as first or as last.
Partial
Host
A jōyō character that contains the instance. One host can contain more than one instance.

By original

On each row the form counts add to the occurrences. Kept, shorter, and longer add to the occurrences. Same and different add to the occurrences. First, last, split, in the middle, and the whole character add to the occurrences. The total row sums those columns. The strokes are not a sum. The hosts column adds to the number in the total row, and that number is not the distinct hosts.
