These are counts in one KanjiVG snapshot. A count is not a rule. The partial mark is the attribute on the group. The original, when the group carries one, is the kvg:original string. The page makes no claim about meaning.

Cinnabar marks the partial group’s strokes on the host, once they have been drawn. On the standalone plate, cinnabar marks the kept strokes when the group’s letter-stripped sequence is a subsequence. The tint is data-stroke-highlight. A plate without it is not recolored. Click a plate to replay. With reduced motion the finished character stays still, and the color stays. The draw timings are unchanged. The plate stays cream in either theme.

How a partial group is read

Partial group
Element
Original
Own file
Reference
Shorter
Fewer strokes than the element’s own file.
Same count
The same number of strokes as the element’s own file.
Longer
More strokes than the element’s own file.
Order kept
Leading
The missing standalone strokes are a prefix, strokes 1 through k, and k is not the last stroke.
Trailing
The missing standalone strokes are a suffix, and the suffix is not every stroke.
Interior
The missing standalone strokes are one contiguous run that includes neither stroke 1 nor stroke N.
Mixed
The group is a subsequence, and the missing strokes are not one leading, trailing, or interior run.
No stroke missing
The letter-stripped sequences are equal. The missing set is empty.
Not a subsequence
The letter-stripped sequence is not a subsequence of the reference. The page names no missing set for that group.
First
One unbroken run, starting at stroke 1, with some other stroke still to come.
Last
One unbroken run, ending on stroke N, with some other stroke already written.
Split
In the middle
One unbroken run that is neither the start nor the end.
The whole character
The partial group contains every stroke. It is not counted as first or as last.
Host
A jōyō character whose file contains the group. One host can contain more than one group.

By element

On each row, first, last, split, in the middle, and the whole character add to the occurrences. The total row sums those columns. The strokes are not a sum. The hosts column adds to the number in the total row, and that number counts a host once for each element it contains.
